The world-building in 'Floating Magic City of Rey: Direct Descendant Mage' is absolutely enchanting. The game drops you right into this vibrant, skybound metropolis, and the attention to detail in the backgrounds is stunning. I found myself pausing just to admire the floating islands and intricate magical architecture. The story follows a young mage, and while the plot is fairly standard fantasy fare, the characters are charming and the dialogue has a nice, natural flow. The adult scenes are well-integrated and tastefully done, adding a layer of depth to the relationships rather than feeling gratuitous. The gameplay itself is straightforward, with a mix of visual novel choices and light RPG elements. It’s not overly complex, which I appreciated—it lets you focus on the story and the gorgeous art. Speaking of art, the character designs are expressive and the CGs are beautifully detailed. The limited edition acrylic keychain is a cute bonus, though I wish the game had more voice acting to bring the characters to life even more. For non-Japanese speakers, the lack of translation is a significant barrier, but the visual storytelling is strong enough that you can still enjoy the atmosphere and emotional beats. The music also does a great job of setting the mood, from serene exploration themes to intense battle tracks.
